In the past, whenever I've started running, I've hated it. It's a good workout, but I suffered through it and never looked forward to going on a run. I live in such a wonderful part of the country that I wanted to change that. I love getting outside, especially when the weather is nice, and by running, I can get a better workout in a shorter amount of time than if I walk, particularly at my fitness level. I wanted to learn how to like running. So my husband and I started the Couch to 5K program a few weeks ago.
So far, I LOVE this program. Running actually feels GOOD rather than miserable. Some days, Joe and I do the program together. Other days, I use a podcast to help me with the intervals. My heart rate no longer sky rockets during the run segments, and I'm glad that Joe is challenging himself to do something new. My ultimate goal is to be able to run the 5.8 mile loop at Percy Warner Park (VERY hilly) with Joe. That goal is a ways away, but mini-goals include finishing the C25K program, running the whole greenway (4.7 miles), and then moving up to the 5.8 loop at PWP but walking the uphills. Soon, I'll be able to say that I am a runner!
