30 Days of Prayer: Day 2 The price of the Cross
Thursday, September 02, 2010
Today I need to go and buy some uniforms for my kids who are entering school for the first time. Every store has a gimmick and the most popular is the "buy one get one free". It seems free but any smart consumer knows that whatever is free to you has been paid for by someone else. As I continued to contemplate this idea I thought of salvation. Salvation is free to us but it cost Christ his life. It is because of this I can go to the Lord in prayer about anything. In this instance my health. I don't like the struggle or the self discipline needed to reach my goal. Reading Hebrews 12:2-3 changes my perspective on things. It reads as follows:
2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (NIV)
When I consider how Christ endured the cross, my struggle with my weight doesn't seem so insurmountable. Lord, today help me to endure my temptations. Remind to not lose heart and fix my eyes on Christ who has made a way for me to succeed and continue on this struggle until the end. In Jesus' name, Amen.
