Running Epiphany

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

This morning I had a run scheduled but I didn't go. I lay in bed tired and achy. Last night I did 60 mins of Zumba and 40 mins of circuit training. As I lay there dreading a dark morning run I realized it wasn't the run itself that I dreaded. It was exercise altogether. I really push it on Monday's so when Tuesdays roll around I am sore and tired. I just had this epiphany today. I did get up and do 30 mins of pilates, which felt great but I miss the nice calm effect that my morning cardio gives me.
I do love the zenned out way I feel when I run. I like the cool breeze in my face, the morning light, the world all to myself. I like the calm that ensues after my run is over. I even like sweating. I like zoning out to my ipod and going into that runner's trance.
So I have decided it is time. Time to change my schedule once again. The kids are in school and we are starting to settle into our fall routine. I think I will try and get a run in this evening, although I do need to mow the lawn. The lawn can wait a day or two. It is only supposed to be in the high 70's today, perfect running weather.
On another note, I won one of the Sparkpeople Anniversary give-aways! What a surprise. I didn't get a notification or anything but when I got home from work last night I had a dvd in the mail. It is the Billy Blanks Jr. Cardio Fit, not the Cardioke. I can't wait to try it, it looks like fun. It has three sections with three different kinds of dance. Hip Hop, Western, and Bollywood. It has your typical 5 mins of warm up followed by three sections of dance...Hip Hop, Western, and Bollywood, finishing up with a 5 min cooldown. I will let you know how it is once I get a chance to try it out. Should be lots of fun!!
I hope you all continue to have a fabulous week as we cruise through Tuesday! Paige

I have similar struggles about my running schedule but I am learning to make peace with all of that. Since I am a relative newbie to the running experience I am running three times weekly. I run 1.5 miles, 2.0 miles and then a 5K. My schedule doesn't always co operate with me so I am learning to build a bit of stretch into my schedule so I don't get all freaked out and end up working "against" the benefit of the run itself.

I agree 100% about the zen like experience and thank you so very much for all your kind comments and your support on my blog and as I journey towards health.

Don't beat yourself up about not getting the run sounds like you had a very busy night. I too am finding that getting out of bed in the morning has been getting harder now that I am greeted with dark and much cooler temperatures. September always seems like a very busy month - I think it is because we are all getting back on a regular schedule and it is harder to fit everything in. Once you get back into your routine it will get easier. Congrats on winning the DVD - you are so lucky!!! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Cool!! Sounds like a fun video!! (Isn't Billy Blanks the Tae Bo guy??) I would love to learn a few Bollywood dances!!
I'm glad you love running so much! (I used to, until it started bothering my knees) I feel the same way about Zumba--well, not "zenned", but happy and energized! It seems all I do now is work and Zumba! Hahahah! The more I work, the more I have to Zumba to get rid of the stress and improve my mood!..
Thanks for the advice! I am definitely ignoring the phone today!!! emoticon
