Hurricane Earl report - 10:30 AM

DH drove me to school in his Jeep - teachers were expected to go in and "secure their rooms" - since my shutters were all closed and my computer is still locked up next door, all we did was move the boxes off supplies off the floor and onto desks. I put a few things away in my office, moved things away from the south side of the rooms (the ceiling leaks in heavy rains), and I put a floor mat under the door when I shut it, to prevent rain from coming in. That was about it. (There was a palm tree that blew down, plus some trees down on the roads. And this is only the beginning.)
Then I offered to take DH to bkfst - we could only find one coffee shop open, so we both had banana bread and coffee (well, a nonfat latte for me). We watched the rain and wind on the waterfront, it was pretty wild.
Got home, filled the big garbage can with water, took a hot shower, and now we're relaxing. The landlord wanted to put up playwood over the 3 sliding glass doors (and leave it up for the rest of the hurricane season) - we opted to not have it put up, since it looks like we won't be getting the brunt of the storm. (We HOPE the storm won't wobble - the eye is even with us now, but it's still about 3 or 4 degrees east of us - and heading WNW - so if it stays on that track, we should be just fine.)
So far, things are good. We're snug in our house, we're relaxing and doing house stuff, and we still have electricity. Things are good.
