Although the recording at stated that they do not accept returns of personalized items (i.e. engraved), I stayed on-hold to talk to one of their reps. Once the rep said that my IPOD Shuffle has an engraving and not-returnable, I let him know that I thought it was very sneaky of Apple to offer Free engraving but not mention at their website that once engraved it was not returnable. Rep changed his tune. He has accepted the return! (All they have to do is replace the clip that's engraved anyway.) The lesson here: You won't know for sure until you ASK! Imagine the number of people wanting to return stuff and hung up once they hear the recording? That's what they want! Just got the email from Apple saying they rec'd the return and credited my account.

    Wow! I know I'm late to the party on this blog, but GREAT ADVICE. I never thought about persisting like that.

    it pay to be persistent! also, can you imagine the pr nightmare for apple if it got out in the news?
