Galatians 2:20

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Today I was meditating on Galatians 2:20 and the KJV has a very interesting difference to this verse.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by **the faith of** the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Other translations use faith IN the Son of God and I was touched by this difference.

I LIVE by His perfect faith! So what does that mean? Does anyone have a thought on this difference?

My faith is weak and needs help [Lord, help thou my unbelief] but JESUS' faith if absolutely perfect! So when I pray I can believe in HIS perfect faith for whatever I'm asking. Does that make sense? I'm still processing through it but I thought I would begin sharing my thoughts on it.

GOD IS SO GOOD, EACH DAY HE IS RIGHT THERE READY TO SPEAK TO US. I AM SO GRATEFUL! NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCE-HE IS OUR ROCK! REVELATION 21:5-7 “AND THE ONE SITTING ON THE THRONE SAID, ‘LOOK, I AM MAKING EVERYTHING NEW!’ AND THEN HE SAID TO ME. “WRITE THIS DOWN, FOR WHAT I TELL YOU IS TRUSTWORTHY AND TRUE.” AND HE ALSO SAID, “IT IS FINISHED! I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA-THE BEGINNING AND THE END. TO ALL WHO ARE THIRSTY I WILL GIVE FREELY FROM THE SPRINGS OF THE WATER OF LIFE. ALL WHO ARE VICTORIOUS WILL INHERIT ALL THESE BLESSINGS, AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY WILL BE MUY CHILDREN.” (NLT)

Wow! I need to ponder this, too! I do know one thing though, you have enough faith. You just need to believe that and exercise it. He measured out to each of us what we needed when we accepted Him as Lord. Also, the faith of a mustard seed is powerful!
Thank you for getting my brain going this am!

"**the faith of** the Son of God," I see strengthened by the passage in Eph. 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace and faith gifts from God, lest any man shall boast?

HI I USE THE NEW ADVENTURE BIBLE WITH MY SON-HE'S 17
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Thanks again for the correct way to start every day! emoticon

You could study His Word more and stay in it until your faith rises up within you. Dare to speak His healing Word each day.
Jesus put everything you need into your heart when He saved you and wrote your name in His Book of Life. Bring it out by speaking the Word into your circumstances.

I could type The Message version, but I doubt if it would be helpful. Here goes:

"I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucifed with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear reighteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not "mine", but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

-Again, slightly different... but was that helpful?

I see the difference in KJV and modern translations...I am reading Joyce Meyers, the EveryDay Life Bible. Her translation:...and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherance to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God...

I believe that we can take KJV literally and hold fast to His perfect faith, so that we can have faith in God's perfect faith to live our life, dead to our sins, since we are crucified with Christ and Christ now lives in us.

You certainly gave me the verse to contemplate for the day! Thank you! I asked my husband, the pastor, the guy with the M-DIV, to read your blog as well. He looked up several translations, and considered it. His comment was that while he memorized this verse in KJV, his understanding of the verse is more like the modern translations, which he tends to trust as more accurate. He also said he'd have to think on it when he was "more awake" (it's 6:20 a.m.)!

Just off the top of my head (and I'm no slouch in the understanding of scripture, been reading/studying/teaching it for years, but I don't have the diploma in it!) I think maybe it's not the faith OF Jesus, as in HIS faith, but rather our faith IN HIM gives us a better understanding of what faith really is, so that we can have more faith. Does that make sense, or is it circular reasoning? The more we exercise, the better the muscle becomes. The more we exercise our faith, the more faith we have? This certainly bears more looking into!

Again, thanks for the verse for me to concentrate on while I swim today...that way I will be exercising in 2 ways at once!
