Alright time to pat myself on the back a little, then move on! I made a huge decision to finally stop smoking after 34 years, and on July 19 began that journey. So far, so good and it has been almost 3 weeks now and I am beginning to realize how wonderful it feels to be smoke free! It hasn't all been roses and champagne - but it gets better everyday.
Of course, the biggest deterrent to stopping was the fear of gaining weight. I always intended to lose a few pounds, then stop smoking - that way if there was a weight gain it wouldn't matter as much! Flash forward many years, and I was still making excuses for not quitting. Finally in June this year, the time had come to just do it - no more excuses. This bad habit was killing my joy, eating away at my finances and beginning to effect my health. I was tired of hiding in the back yard, and slinking around like a second class citizen. It was just time!
A few days into my "quit" I quickly realized that a support system was needed and that's when I found SparkPeople! What a great place to find information, support and people that can relate to what you are going through and offer encouragement and positive feedback.
Anyway, I decided the best approach for me was to focus on the not smoking, eat healthy food and snacks and at least try to maintain my current weight - but not worry about a gain. So far, so good...but it's now time to step it up. From reading other blogs and articles, it seems like the most successful people are the ones that plan, plan, plan - so in the coming week, I'll be setting goals and lay out a plan of attack to begin living healthier!!! Yahoo - I am ready! Finally!
