...and I will run!

Quite literally, actually. I've been craving carrot cake for a couple of months now. Yesterday, I bought a big piece of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting from a deli (NOT low-fat or sugar free or anything), and I put it in the fridge at home. I told myself that I couldn't eat it until I completed an 8-mile run! :)

I've been doing a 15k training schedule, just for the "fun" of it. It was a 10-week schedule, and I got up to week 9, which ended with an 8-mile run. I happened to choose a really hot day, and only made it 7.5 miles before I was honestly thinking I would have a heat stroke. I attempted again, a few days later, when I was on vacation in Minnesota. I went 6 miles, and just wasn't feeling it. So it was a failed second attempt.

Then yesterday, when I bought the carrot cake, I said "Tomorrow is the day! I WILL do 8 miles!" and I went to bed at 9:00 pm in order to be out the door at 6:30 am (right after sun rise, but before it gets hot). What can I say? Carrot cake is one hell of a motivator!

I decided to go reeeeally slooooow. I refused to look at my Garmin Forerunner, because I didn't want to get discouraged by a super slow pace. My goal was simply to FINISH the 8 mile run, no matter how slow I was. The slow pace was actually really nice! I felt really good, and wasn't breathing hard or anything. It felt like a nice, easy jog. There was a cool breeze the whole time I was running, and I felt awesome.

I finally looked at my Garmin at mile 7, and was surprised that I was doing a 11:08 mile. I FELT like I was doing a 12:00+ mile. (Normally, on my long runs, I average about a 10:15 pace).

The last half mile, I just booked it. I ran as fast as I could, and I felt like I was flying. My feet barely brushed the ground. It was such a cool feeling! I wish I could run like that all the time, but I wouldn't last very long, haha.

I gulped down my water, and couldn't believe how drenched with sweat I was! My shirt was almost completely soaked through. So of course, I had my husband take a picture of me :)

You better believe I'm going to enjoy EVERY bite of that carrot cake today! All 650 calories of it.
