My Vacation in Retrospect

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

I am glad to report that I am safely back home after our vacation. I learned a lot while I was gone.

I missed my usual almost vegetarian eating style. Not having lots of fruit and veggies each day weighed heavily on me. I know I gained lots of weight. I feel logy and heavy. I will be very glad to resume my healthy eating.

I found that while I am usually cheerful, too much time with those I love can cause me to become short of temper and prickly. Feelings get hurt irreparably in such circumstances.

I learned that I need to physically prepare for the demands of travel and guesting. I didn't have the ability to negotiate the tasks I needed to complete, nor did I have some of the equipment that would have made myself and others more comfortable.

I missed the everyday dialogue with my Sparkfriends. I found how important the goals we set for our teams are really important to my well-being. In many instances I found that my teams and I are much better at communicating with each other than I was communicating with my family and close associates.

This vacation was a wonderful time of discovery for me and for James who accompanied my son and me. I had the opportunity to see things through new eyes as James saw things for the first time and was very vocal in appreciation of each new experience.

It was fun and educational for all of us.

This is all great and I'm glad you are being honest with yourself here. Vacations at best take us away from good habits. You'll lose any weight gained in no time hon.

I'm planning a vacation mid-Sept. I am staying on program! I can't count the times I was planning to go off. Not this time! Lucky for me I'm visiting my friend who supports and appreciates and shares my healthy eating choices.

You critiqued your vacation just like most of the ones I have taken with family members!

And the lessons you learned spoke to me as well.

Glad you are home and back to your routine each day. It is much harder to get out of our routine now that we are older. I don't handle change so easy these days.

God bless and love to you,
Jean

A vacation creates a situation in which we may step back from our usual routine to be able to see which routine things work for us and which things don't. It allows us to plan for our future unencumbered by the weight of our daily chores. It also affords for us the opportunity to really feel gratitude for our gifts in life, including the people and sights we have encountered on our vacation.

I'm glad that you experienced your vacation--and I'm glad you're back!!

Lynne
