It's too hot to think...

Sunday, August 01, 2010

... and yet, I need to blog.

I have been hugely affected by the heat this past week and my body has been craving pretzels, peanut butter and bread. It led to a temporary 2 lb gain.

Today I decided to up my protein and add a slice of bread to my breakfast - it only cost me 1/2 a fruit - and tonight I have no desire for anything extra.

Like everything else, this too shall pass.

Tomorrow we bring the treadmill back home so I can still get an evening walk daily. I'd rather do 20 minutes on a treadmill than nothing if I can't get my hour walk outdoors.

One day at a time my friends. Soon enough you will be hearing me complain about the cold cold winter again.

**edit: It seems that the peanut butter was calling for the salt and the protein! I am feeling loads better adding the bread and protein to my meal plan!!

***edit: This is working so well - I have no doubts I will maintain 116 this time!

It has been an unbelievably hot summer in NY/NJ. I went to a funeral on April 7, and it was over 90 degrees out! Of course it cooled down after that, but as a whole the summer has been very hot. Our A/C broke to boot. I momentarily thought about trying to live without it for the time being, but we were able to get it repaired at very low cost. As it turns out, it would have been impossible to live like that.

I heard that we were on track to have the hottest July on record, but July 31 was actually a cooler day, and as a result it is only the second hottest July on record. It has been very hard to stay on track with this heat. I like to sneak in a little extra walking, especially when I am walking the dog, but in this weather there is less motivation to do so.

Can only imagine what it is like down south!

All that I can say is WOW!! You know what to do when it comes to eating right and how to over come the heat issue. And yes, I think that we will all be complaining about the cold weather when it returns. I live in KS so it does get rather cold here.

Congratulations for being so in tune with your body's needs! emoticon

I haven't had any major cravings in a while. Maybe that means my system is balanced.

I hear you about the heat! Same thing here. Good on you for choosing to work out indoors, regardless of the circumstances.

It's been hot here too. I've been swimming a lot because of the heat. Even the water in the lake is warm, but it feels good.

Three cheers for you for your quick response to recognizing your need to deal with the heat and planning a response to it so you can take care of yourself.

You're setting a great example for all of us!

103 here yesterday. Heat index 122. And I've been eating horrible. Thought there might be a connection to the heat. Hope all is well!

I can completely relate! Treadmills do come in handy sometimes!
And sometimes I have to arrange my foods because of cravings, too! LOL
Be blessed, be well and take it all one day at a time!

Blessings, Katie emoticon

The humidity has finally passed here. At least for now. I got outside for a 45 min walk. It felt terrific.

We are opposite! When it is summer I can't eat at all, and I have to be careful as I can easily go below the 1,200. My cravings right now are strawberries (no, I am not pregnant! lol), canteloupe, tomatoe, salad from my garden,... and not really ice cream this year (that's a real change and improvement for me!)

When it is winter, that's another story! I crave for fondue, raclette... all kind of heavy dishes made with cheese! And of course I crave for chocolate around Christmas.

Each season brings its temptation. Be strong and keep your usual good mood and your sense of humor!

As Dawn says - interesting - pretzels are salty - and you need more salt in the heat!!
Peanut butter often has salt too - and the extra protein tends to be filling for longer.
I hope that the weather returns to normal as soon as possible and that we don't get the excessive heat you seem to be getting when our summer comes around!!

Interesting blog. The two things that I had my "mini-binge" on were related to my body's reaction to the excessive heat. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one. Keep on sparking my friend. You're doing GREAT! Love ya, Dawn
