How Do U Make Yourself Do Something?

I've been blogging about not being able to get back into the exercise routine after a year of steady walking. I've taken the summer off with little bits of walking here and there.
On a recent blog, someone said, "I just make myself do it." Huh? How do U do that? I can't force myself to do something I don't want to do. I can say, "Do it!" but I turn around and say NO I don't want to. And I don't. I just don't see how U force it upon yourself.

    This Monday I signed up for the Official 10-Minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge here on SP. Maybe you're familiar with the Challenge Central already?

It seems like the only way I'm truly accountable is when I feel pressure from the outside, in this case the streak that I have to update for the other team members to see. I just came back home from a 35-minute walk and realize once again that my only problem is in getting out the door... I promised myself ten minutes would suffice, but when they were up, they felt like ridiculously few, so I kept going. I won't change my goal of "only" ten minutes a day, because on other days I really don't feel like doing absolutely anything, so then those ten minutes are a rea pain. But boy do I feel good when I'm allowed to tick the ten-minute box after that job has been done!!!

    I tell myself I can do ANYTHING for 10 minutes. I'll set my phone to alert me in five minutes, head out the door, and if I still don't want to walk any more when my phone goes off, I'll turn right around and go home. Most of the time, I find that getting out the door was the hard part - I'll keep on going for my much longer usual walk. I hope that helps!

    I like to talk so I've asked kids and friends to walk or emoticon with.

  I focus on the benefits of doing something I really don't like to do - exercise being at the top of my list. I want to get smaller and there are three things I can do to get me there - exercise, count calories and drink water.
