I told myself something different today.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

I was surprised at myself today and how strong I can be sometimes. I didn't go to food to solve my problem, and again, a surprise. Anyways, watch the vlog, comment, add me, contact me....let's do this. :-)

I'm an evening eater too. I just make sure that I save some of the calories I have for the evening. Popcorn is a great snack and I always make sure I can have 5 cups of it. I don't always eat it, but I plan for it, just in case my strength falls by the way side. Keep track of your food and you can have snacks too.

I wish you strength!

Sarah - I'm sending you strength. By the time you see my comment, you will probably already have had dinner with your mom. But I'm sending you strength anyway. DON'T FEEL GUILTY to not eat what your mom is making. It's your body. It's your choice. I understand that you don't want to seem ungrateful that she has cooked for you, but I'm sure she will understand if you tell her you're in the mood for something lighter tonight. I like the idea about taking a small portion so you don't insult her but then filling up on a salad.

Evenings are a hard time to avoid the pantry and fridge for me too. What works for me is to listen to my HEAD, not my stomach or my MOOD. There's nothing that says you can't snack while you're studying or reading, but you need to use your HEAD and be SMART about it. I don't have kids, but it also helps me to imagine what I'd want to feed a small child. You wouldn't fill a kid up with crap (okay, I realize way too many people do, but I wouldn't want to) so why would you feed yourself crap? I think about how kids need a variety of foods with lots of nutrients to grow and develop. That helps me. Would I sit a toddler down in front of the TV with a whole bag of chips? Of course not! I'm get the idea, I'm sure.

I'm glad to hear you're setting some goals. My baby step goal for the first couple weeks is just to stay engaged with this website. Accountability. Got to keep myself honest, and logging really works for me.

I hope you survived the hamburger/potato/gravy casserole. :) Have a good evening.

PS - just curious....what are you studying?

What your mom is making sounds REALLY good... I would go ahead and have a SMALL portion like you said. Don't tell yourself no. Just limit how much you can have. Will there be salad? If you like salad, make one and fill it with your favoirte veggies and fill up on that as well. There are actually some really really GREAT fat free dressings out there. One of my favorites is a FF poppyseed that my farmers market carries but I don't know if everyone has it. I think they make it themselves. Also I love Kraft zesty italian.. I think its craft anyways..a nd I actually prefer the fat free one.. yum... so go ahead.. have some of your moms yummy cookin and treat yourself to a salad as well!!! I think the weekly goals sound good. New tennis shoes for achieving your goal. I like it. I have recently been thinking about gettin a pedicure once I lose 30 lbs. Thats how much a pedicure costs here..$30.. so if I lose 30 lbs. I'll get one.. my only problem is that I have really ugly feet.. but everyone keeps telling me they will make them pretty and I want that soooo bad... lol ok.. im way too long winded.. sorry.. lol. . have a great evening!!

Woohoo for hearing and listening to what you were telling yourself!

I know what you mean about eating in the evening. I struggle with this too, so it's not like I've mastered it or anything... BUT I've been trying to brush my teeth after I've had my calories - food isn't as appealing with your mouth all minty, right?
The thing I do most is go to my room when I'm getting tempted. For me it's all the way upstairs and there's no food in there that I can just mindlessly start eating.

Wishing you strength!!
