Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Okay, so I poked around a bit in the goals and motivational areas & have come up with a plan to get me to the Boston Marathon:

Maintain 30 minutes of cardio walking daily.
Maintain nutrition/calorie daily goals.
Start "Chi Walking" to help with injury prevention.
Increase to 60 minutes daily by August.
October 2010 -- Get physician approval to start running.
Start "Chi Running"
Register for Ed Moot Memorial 5K Fun Run.
December 4th, 2010 - Run Ed Moot Memorial 5K.
Continue Chi Running/Walking.
Register for Space Coast Marathon
November 28th, 2011 Run Space Coast Marathon
December 2011 -- Start training for full marathon
Register for Space Coast Full Marathon
November, 2012 Run Space Coast Full Marathon in 4.25 hours to qualify
December 2012 -- Register for Boston Marathon (or Walt Disney Marathon if not qualified)
Continue training for full marathon
January 2013 -- Run in Walt Disney Marathon, if needed to qualify

Sorry for the delayed response -- work overload and what-not. I got a somewhat reserved approval from the doctor; he expressed concern about my knees and I assured him I would be extremely careful.

I completed the Couch-to-5K training this past Saturday and I have my first RUN event this weekend. The 3 previous events have been walk or walk/run, so I am gearing up to run the full 5K distance.

Paying attention to my form & breathing, listening to my body, taking days off & not rushing it. Speed will come later, stamina is my focus right now, along with weight loss.

Hey, that's one gutsy goal list!!! How's it going so far? Did you get the doc's approval yet? I am a 61 year old runner who started 2 1/2 years ago. I have run in several 5K's and 2 10 K's so far, and am thinking about a half, maybe next Fall. I hope you will like running as much as I do. Be careful out there.
