I haven't blogged in a while, so figured it was about time to do so again.
Every year in Kelowna, there's a big triathlon called the Kelowna Apple Triathlon... plenty of awesome athletes from all over the region, province, and even the world show up to run it... can't blame 'em. It's a pretty course!
Anyway, the day prior to the KAT, they have something called the Try-A-Tri, a smaller version of the full sized tri. It's apparently mainly for people who don't think they can handle the swim portion... at least that's what the website says.
Well, this year I'm doing the Try-A-Tri. Someone at work planted the seed, and I figured that it would be a major accomplishment.
The Try-A-Tri is now just over a month away... August 21st. I've been training for a couple months now, but I'm nervous.
I mean, it makes sense to be nervous! 6 months ago, I weight 350lbs! And now I'm swimming, biking and running in a tri? That just doesn't seem right! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head about it.
But the training is going well. I'm NOT a runner at all, so that's been my biggest challenge... But I've accepted it. I know I can go for the full distance. Now it's a matter of running the full distance outside in the summer heat, 'cause there's about a 10 degree difference between my gym and August outside weather.
But I took the run outside today... it was hot. And it was different, but I got about half the distance covered off today. If I do a little more every day, I know that by the tri next month, I should have no issues.
I still shake my head in disbelief that I'm doing this, but I'm gonna feel so proud when I cross that finish line. And who knows... maybe next year I can do the full triathlon!
