I HAD cancer

Thursday, July 15, 2010

I had cancer. I got diagnosed in the middle of May. From the time of my diagnosis until now, my whole life has certered around that diagnosis. The first month, I was being poked and prodded and made to drink yucky stuff so that they could take CAT scans. Then a weekend off to attend my bonus daughter's graduation from the University of Virginia Law School. Back home to work for a few days. The doctor told me to go ahead and take my planned vacation to Disney World and that he would operate when I got back.

Had the operation to remove the cancer and any affected or potentially affected lymph nodes. The pathology report came back with clean margins, no cancer in the lymph nodes. So, no chemotherapy or radiation for me. Just recovering from the surgery. I have my next doctor;s appointment on August 10th and I expect to be released to return to work at that appointment.

Yesterday, I had my first post-operative appointment. I was cleared to begin a walking program and to swim and bathe. Thrilling! I am at home recuperating, but now I have an evening swim to look forward to. I am walking up and down the hall to start my walking program. Baby steps.

Congrats on clean margins. As a 2 year BC survivor I've been there. I am so glad that all went well for you and now you can slowly get back on track. Wishing you the very best.

I Had Cancer last year also - I had to do radiation even though the lymph nodes were negative so go for you that you don't - real energy zapper.

I am glad that it went so well for you, great that you can get back on track so quickly, mine derailed me for months.
