c25k - w5d1 - FOX alert ahh!

Today I had another meeting with my trainer at the gym. I got there and he had me walk a mile on the treadmill as a warm-up. Then we did an upper body workout so lots of arms, chest, shoulders, and had to do planks for the abs (ouch!) Then for a cool down he had me do 20 minutes on the elliptical. So that was a pretty good work out! I had been planning on starting my week 5 of c25k at the gym, but I was pretty tired after that and felt I had done a good workout already.

Well I got home and made dinner and Thomas (my husband) gets home and says he is going for a run. So then I start to feel guilty and decide I should do my w5d1. So I take off running as well, outside, in the 95 degree weather. Ugh. But it was going pretty good, I was just nearing the end of my first 5 minute session, when on the trail walks this HUGE red fox. I just kind of froze. I didn't know what to do. Then I stamped my foot thinking it would run away but it started walking closer! Really creeped me out, so I backed away and started running a different way. It really kind of shook me up! I mean aren't they supposed to be afraid of us? And it was enormous! So I tried to finish my run, but had to walk for about a minute during each of the last two running sessions. I just couldn't seem to get back into my groove. Needless to say, I think I will stick to running at the gym for now on. I'm sure it was probably harmless, but I didn't like it one bit!

    I honestly don't know how you run outside ESPECIALLY in 95 degree southern weather!!! You are such an inspiration emoticon

Don't worry about the scale. I'm telling you, take some measurements of your thighs, stomach arms...etc. You can track them monthly under the weigh in tab. If you're doing all of this strength training and running, you're probably losing inches first. My best friend is going through the same thing. She's been working out like crazy for MONTHS and has only lost 7 pounds but has lost inches everywhere else.

It gets frustrating when the scale doesn't move but if you have an alternative way of tracking your successes, you won't get so discouraged!!
Have you talked to your trainer about it?

  I have a rule of thumb with wild critters. It is: they are more afraid of you than you are of them. This has helped me deal with snakes, mice, and more!

Maybe you startled him? You are right, they usually run away from you rather quickly. I live deep in the woods and have coyotes, owls, bats, snakes, deer, etc... But that does not deter me from getting outside!
