Vacation Nervousness

Monday, July 12, 2010

Vacation, Rounds 2 and 3 are getting closer! I'm super excited because there are so many fun things in store. I'm also super nervous. Vacation always brings with it more opportunities to eat out.

It is so difficult to eat healthy while out. I'm always amazed by how many calories even a salad can be in a restaurant.

I'm also worried about getting my cardio in. Vacations always mean extra walking and activity, but it's not the same. I have been doing interval running on the treadmill at the gym. (I want to eventually be able to run 3 miles each day.) This week I'm running for 1/2 mile stretches. What is going to happen to that if I don't make it to the gym regularly?! Ugh.

Don't get me wrong - vacation, rounds 2 and 3 is going to be SO MUCH FUN! There are still so many other weeks in the year to be on track, but I don't want to blow my progress. It was so cool to weigh in this morning and find that I had lost 2.2 pounds last week!!! I don't want to gain it back. I've worked so hard!

I'm going to do everything that I can to prevent a downward spiral. I'll need the support of my vacation buddies (ahem, mom!) and my SparkFriends, though!!!

we just returned from a road trip. We each lost weight while travelling by making a plan ahead of the trip. We decided that breakfasts would be prepacked by us...either protein shake or packaged instant oatmeal. While travelling we discovered that Subway has egg white muffins on their breakfast menu for under $2 and less than 180 calories. My lunch was generally store bought packaged salad which I added a can of drained tuna and a drizzle of low fat dressing. We usually ate at raodside parks. For dinner we chose from splitting a footlong again from Subway so that we could control the fat content on indgredents or going to a local store to pick some sort of partially prepared foods to nuke. My wife supported my struggles and reminded me that we didn't need to stop for ice cream and I could live better without those choclate bars. With her support and strength we each lost 5 pounds while travelling for 12 days. I hope you enjoy your vacation and have someone there to help you maintain control too. emoticon
