Sad Day

Thursday, July 08, 2010

It takes a lot to get some things through my head. Today was a case in point. I really thought that justice would prevail in the Oscar Grant trial. It didn't.

Mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for shooting Oscar Grant in the back. Mehserle is a white cop and Grant was a young black man.

And now there are thousands of people in the streets, sad and angry, trying to make sense of a situation that has repeated itself too many times in this country. You would think in the Bay Area where there is such a melting pot of cultures that we could get beyond the issue of race when it comes to justice....when will it come!?

I think of officer Joshua T. Miktarian and somehow, I can't fault police officers for doing their duty.

People seem to always look for excuses to vent their anger and/or grievences. Race should not be the issue people should be! Here in my area so many are angry about the DOJ and the black panthers screw up that they forget it should not be about the guilty being black and the victim white but that it happened at all. I try to live my life according to the Golden rule and it doesn't say anything about race, relgoin or where you are from. It is sad to see our country and people pulling apart like it is right now.
