A Wide Smile From the Doctor and More

Thursday, July 08, 2010

Had my annual physical today and the doctor was almost as elated as I am with the changes. She wanted to know what I'd been doing and I touted the great resources and tools (and friends) of Sparkpeople!

Since my last visit I had lost 51 lbs. My blood pressure was was 102//72, which I've never experienced at the doctor's office before. While my cholesterol is still a little high, she said she wasn't going to have me on medication and we'd recheck in six months. She believes with some more weight loss and continued exercise, I'll succeed it bringing it down naturally.

I had been on both blood pressure and cholesterol medicines. After losing my job the end of December and no insurance coverage, I wasn't able to refill medicine after the first of February. So, I was more motivated to work on bringing my weight down and exercising. It worked. I should say I was keeping a close watch on my blood pressure on a daily basis with a monitor at home.

Now after this visit, I've been given that extra umph I needed to keep me going. It was so nice to go to the doctor and receive praise for accomplishments instead of just encouragement to do something with my weight issues!
