Sunday morning, 4th July 2010.
I walked 5km in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life. I was there with 10,000 other women and my 7 year old son walked with me.
By the 1km mark my son got bored with my speed and asked if he could run ahead. I did jog with him for about 10 yards, but my knees said Enough! at 9 yards. He walked a faster pace a good 50 yards ahead of me but I wasn't worried because the course was clearly marked out with pink ribbons.
By the 3km mark I felt like my legs were going to fall off. But I kept on pushing.
At 450km I was glad the end was in sight. My son finished at around 58 minutes. I finished at 61 minutes.
I wasn't going for a speed record though, my goal this year was just to finish. And I did!
Afterwards, we both got medals which we wore proudly the rest of the day. My son took his to school to show to his classmates and teacher. I've got mine hanging up in my bedroom where I can see it. He's already asking when we can do another 5km walk, but next time he wants to be allowed to run.
It's not too late for people to donate and sponsor me on this walk. Just click on the donation page link. www.raceforlifesponsorme
