I Still Can't Believe I'm Able

Thursday, July 01, 2010

to run further than 10 or 12 feet without having to stop. I started and completed the C25K program before the bad heat and humidity hit....and stayed. So my running continuously has been for shorter periods of time lately. Given that, I've been going to the track and walking a lap, running a lap, and repeat. That's cool, but tonight I started walking the "curves" and running the length of the football field on both sides. During one of these times, I was overcome with my ability to run the length of a football field. Yeah, the lap is a 1/4 mile and more distance than the football field, but I can "see" the football field.

When you tell somebody you can run a 1/4 mile, a 5K, or whatever distance, they know you're doing alot. But, when you tell them you can run the distance of a football field, they have no trouble visualizing that and knowing somebody such as myself that couldn't get up a flight of stairs without problems six months ago, they are really WOWed by that.

Even more important I'm WOWed. Not only that, it helped me with my motivation to keep moving and working on my endurance. Yeah, I'm one of the chunky runners and I won't be winning any speed records (not yet anyway :)), but I'm experiencing success. So when I start to get down because the scale didn't move or I haven't met a goal as quickly as I'd hope, I'll remember I CAN RUN THE LENGTH OF A FOOTBALL FIELD!
