Running - If you haven't tried it you should!

I'm very lucky, a couple years ago after going to a National Night Out neighborhood gathering I discovered that a few of my neighbors went walking together three nights a week. They invited me to go along and I accepted. This was one of those turning points in my life. First, I found support through my neighbors and made some very good friends along the way.

They also introduced me to running. I remember one of them had just started running and was training for her first 5K. I said I could never run, I just didn't have it in me, I wasn't a runner, I couldn't do it...blah...blah...blah... She said she used to say the same things but now she was doing it. A few months later I gave it a try on the treadmill. I had trouble running even three minutes. I remember vividly on Thanksgiving Day 2008 I ran two full miles (without stopping!) on the treadmill. It was the best feeling ever, what an accomplishment! I couldn't even believe I had done it! The feeling of accomplishment was so great it is something I don't think I will ever forget. After years of saying I couldn't do it I did it! Who would have thought?

Since then I have finished a couple 5K's and a 10K. I got an IPod and I am always on the hunt for a new perfect running song. What I have found is that I really enjoy running. I don't know that I will ever run a marathon but I love putting on my headphones and just taking off for 45 min. to an hour. It is such an escape from the stresses of life. I have found that I am happier and more patient. I don't know what I did before I had this stress reliever.

So if you have ever said you can't do it I think you should give it a try. I'm so glad I did.

    my sister and i are working up to the running.. right now we are fast fat jiggling.. we did our fist 5K walking/fat jiggling this past weekend. have a long way to go before ready to run a full 5K... going to try in august.. we know we wont be able to run the whole way but we are going to do it.

will be looking for shoes.. knees and feet hurt when done..
dont want to jepordize my line dancing 7 hours a week.

    Running can be very hard on your knees. My number one recommendation would be to make sure you have premium running shoes. I prefer ASICS but everyone is different. If you aren't sure what to get I would go to a running store. They will watch you run and give you recommendations on shoes as well as your running form. Good luck and don't give up!

  I walk alot and also have a gazelle, I am trying to work running in but it hurts my knees any suggestions? I think I would enjoy it and the benefits are great
