My nephew - a motivator

Saturday, June 19, 2010

We were in Cleveland for yesterday and today for my niece's dance recital (gosh those are long, luckily my niece was in 10 of the 60 songs - her cousin in 2...made the 4 hours go by a little easier).

My nephew, Patrick, turned 14 on Wednesday. I can do a lot of bragging about him but I won't :). He has been an active soccer player for years and is headed to the high school team in the fall. He mentioned that he had to go for a run this morning but slept in - he'll go tomorrow. I asked him how many miles he was doing (fully expecting 3-6 range). His reply "well, tomorrow I'll do 10". His soccer coach has them on some routine.

Seriously, he said 10 miles like he was going to jog to the corner to pick up a milkshake. I'm impressed with his dedication. Who am I kidding - I'm more than impressed.

He asked me why we weren't staying over and I told him we signed up for a 5K in the morning. Then, of course, had to add - I'm not sure if I can run the whole 5K. His reply - "You can do three miles. You may do a 12 minute mile but you can run it"

I will be running with Patrick's voice in my head. (praying that I can do the 12 min mile)

I am starting where I left off.....I can't wait to hear how the 5K went! I was thinking of your advise last week. When I knew that I could start to run again, I decided that doing it on my own was not a smart move...that I would be better off trying the c25k method....so, this week I did week three, three times. On to week four next week. Thanks for the advise!

That Patrick is a smartie - he's absolutely right. You CAN do it! And you don't even have to do 12 minute miles. I speak from experience. Have a great time and tell us all about it! Signed, Sarah "13 minute mile" Patrick. :)

GOOD LUCK on your 5k! If running were easy everyone would be doing it. They aren't, but YOU ARE! emoticon
