Helping a friend has helped me

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

I have been helping a friend clear out her house because child protective services has given her 1 week (from last Thursday) to clean it up or lose her 3 children. Yes its that bad. 7-8 of her friend have been working night and day over the weekend to get it cleaned. I was there last thursday and last night helping clean. I know have a new outlook on my own mild clutter (a few hotspots going at the moment). I even cleaned out the Suburban and took it to get vacuumed out (hubby and I picked up sod 2 weekends ago and got dirt in the back and never cleaned it out). It is now all cleaned out.

I now have to get my daughter motivated to get her stuff decluttered and OFF MY FRONT PORCH.

I hope you are logging it is as "Heavy Cleaning" for cardio. I have a friend that threatens to lock me in her house for a week...knowing that when she finally lets me out it would be decluttered. lol

Your spirit for your friend is shinning, W2G. I believe folks really don't want to live like this and there comes a time when they just get over whelmed and don't know where to start. I am an organized person with a few closets to go through. But I also struggle with getting rid of things. Blessing to you for helping a friend in need!

I agree -- you have a generous spirit. Also, I read an article a while ago about a connection between throwing stuff away and losing weight. It was all about letting go of old habits. Hope that getting rid of your mild clutter helps you reach some fitness goals yourself. At the very least, cleaning burns calories!

Let us know what techniques you use to get you daughter to pick up her stuff. You'd be helping a lot of people, me included.
