Lack of participation

Monday, June 14, 2010

Its been almost two weeks that I have been in constant pain. Scaling as high as an eight. There were three occasions when I was stuck in a bent over position. Once from picking something up, once from cleaning the commode and a third time just from sitting. I also fell again landing quite hard on my right side. Not one inch of my spine does not hurt.

With all of this going on, my body has refused to let me work out. I struggle to do one mile, did not do any strength training and frankly my eating habits were less then stellar. Although I give myself some credit, I have not had any cookies. Woo Hoo for me!!

I had meetings all of last week, court appearances and building inspectors and three this week which will also prevent me from doing any thing remotely considered exercise. Note to self: small goal do more miles this week than last!

Lack of participation on my behalf, sorry to me, sorry to you, and my teams.

I am doing my best keeping up with my friends on occasion and noting your successes and comments. I will continue to do my best too!

To spread a little sunshine, I am thinking....Maybe we should just set a time aside for all of us to have a toast and a drink, maybe two or three drinks? Meeting place; computer Time; 5:00 pm Day; Friday Or we can go with the theme "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" and start now...

Oh sweetie! Don't push through the pain! You have pain for a reason it is telling you to slow down!! Maybe you can focus on more movement rather than miles. Doing arm lifts and bicep curls while you're sitting - maybe some leg lifts while you're laying down if it doesn't put too much pressure on your back.

I empathize!! Feel better soon!!!!

Wow, I was wondering if things were ok with you. I'm sorry to hear about the back pain. I hope it eases up for you soon.

And I'm with you this Friday at 5. I may not be at my computer, but I will raise a glass to you all the same! emoticon

thank you all for your concern and advice. Long story short; My back is the reason why I have been disabled for 4 years now. I also have been or had done everything you advised Shantra. My mattress cost me $2700, I take pills 5 times a day, plus I use over the counter stuff like biofreeze and the like. Surgeries, screws and plating, fusions etc. I have a cane that I use when walking and I have to take a nap everyday to help ease the muscles after any kind of exertion. So two weeks straight of pain is nothing new to me. My major issue these last two weeks though is that I am not usually an 8 on the pain scale for two weeks straight, I maintain a 4-5 daily. The one thing I really have to watch out for is my spinal cord. It is flattened and twisted in several areas which could make me paralyzed from the neck down if I am not careful. I sound like I am whining, sorry. To recap, thank you all!!!

And here I was feeling sorry for myself because I cannot bust through this stupid plateau. emoticon You have other issues that are could soon turn to discouragement by some, but you sound like you are keeping the faith and not letting it drag you down and away from your goals. Keep looking after yourself as that is the most important thing.

I like you idea of meeting in the virtual world of computers for a drink or two. LOL.

I am really sad to hear how bad your back is. If I am repeating anything you already know then please forgive but I want to help. I broke my spine in 4 places in a horse riding accident many years ago and I have had problems ever since.

Make sure your mattress is firm, if it isn't take a door off or get a piece of wood and have someone put it under your mattress for support, it makes a world of difference.

Buy a portable heat pad, the type you can strap around you that you warm in the microwave, not expensive but gives huge relief if you place it on the area that hurts most.

Crucial. Muscle relaxants and really good painkillers.. ask your Doctor for them.. it is easier for your back to relax and let everything realign and strengthen with these. Otherwise you can be causing further problems tensing against the pain.

Look into physio and exercises for your back. There are some really simple ones but please make sure you only do these with medical direction. My Dad followed a friends advice and ended up stuck on the floor on his hands and knees with 3 slipped discs and he had to have his spine fused.

Try to walk as normally as possible. Again this is alignment. Use crutches if you have to.. they are the one thing I go back to every time if my back is really bad because they give support while allowing me to move my legs properly.

When sitting make sure your back is well supported and keep it upright. Think of your spine as a stack of plates.

I hope all of this helps.

I am always here if you need to talk. Just give me a shout out and I will respond. Send me a private message with your number and I will call, I won't be a pest. I will just check up on you.

I hope your back, and everything else gets better soon. I think you need to concentrate on getting you back to feeling better rather than worrying about us. Yes, we miss you, but we should not be your first concern right now.
