Been Wondering...

Friday, June 04, 2010

Why there appears to be so few cyclists down South and today in the middle of yet another downpour my DW offered a suggestion: it rains too darned much!

Each day seems to start off with lots of humidity and it isn't too long, say anytime from noon on that random downpours of tremendous ferocity seems to be pounding away out there! I know *I* sure wouldn't want to be caught in one of these while out biking!

Speaking of cycling, I sure didn't plan my outing for the Great Finger Lakes Bike Tour very well...! This is coming up the week after we return home! Which will be like two weeks of being OFF the bike with only a few days for me to cycle back and forth to work before I'm off to Watkins Glen! They offer bike rides from 15 miles on up to 100 miles! While I didn't anticipate hitting the 100 mile mark yet, I REALLY wanted to hit something significant such as perhaps 50 or more miles. It's going to be a challenge...I'll have Sat. / Sun. June 12-13 to test my meddle and see what I can do:

PLUS it will be a short and EXTREMELY crazy / busy work week for me prior to that so you all will likely see VERY little of me 'round these parts after Mon. June 7th.

But you know I'll be thinking of you all in the meantime!

Washington State doesn't exactly attract a lot of bicyclists either - unless there's an event or unusually good weather!

Not much rain here but the streets are not too safe to ride on because of all the traffic. You have to take youe bike to a walk/bike path to ride safely. You have a great time and tell us all about you trip to Watkins Glen when you get back. Also the Finger Lakes is someplace I have always wanted to visit but have never been. emoticon

My friend from Raleigh told me a story about how he was biking and got caught up in hurricane-type rain. Eep! I experience some pretty bad rain when I've been down there, and I'm sure there's a lot more to come! haha Anyway, good luck in Watkins Glen. No matter how far you end up biking, it'll be a wonderful accomplishment. Good luck!

The heat, humidity, and pop up rain would definitely be a deterrent! emoticon It sounds like you are going to have a crazy busy spell as soon as you get back home!! Take care!
