"My wife with the pretty jowls"

Friday, June 04, 2010

My husband: "Ready for dinner, my pretty-jowled wife?" he actually meant to compliment me on my re-emerging jaw-line, but had a bit of a word mix-up!

Me: "Smooth-talker!"

It is kind of nice to look in the mirror and see "my" face coming back, though! I've got a hint of a jaw-line and my cheek bones are starting to show, now that I'm past the 25% mark on my weight loss.

He also compliments me often on my new agility and strength, which I have to confess I find really flattering, as I so don't think of myself as strong or flexible. When I was putting weight on, he never once made me feel bad about it, he asked me if I was unhappy with him and, when I told him I wasn't, that was it! Subject over. And now that I'm making healthy changes, he helps when he can, has learned how to cook new, healthier dishes, and has actually dropped 30+ pounds himself, simply because of our new eating style (so he's an associate Spark member, I guess, at least in terms of benefits).

Ah, I'm rambling today--but I thought the "pretty jowls" comment was pretty funny! I mean, I don't think I've ever heard a positive adjective attached to the word jowls...

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

This is sweet and wonderful! Your husband sounds like mine...right intentions, wrong wording! It's incredible to have the support of a partner who thought I was sexy at close to 300 pounds and still loves me at under 200. I know we're lucky to have them! Keep up the great work!!

ahhhhh what a sweet hubbie. Eventhough he got the words mixed up the intentions were awesome.

Happy Anniversary!

Your husband sounds like a sweetheart!!

I love the term "associate Spark Member"!!! I am definitely going to start calling my husband that, because he has dropped more weight than I have (43 pounds!!) since I joined SparkPeople. I always tell him that he could not have done it without SP even if he doesn't have an account!

YAY for cheekbones and jawlines!

Sometimes we men should just keep our traps shut. We never learn though, we just keep trying.

Funny! Not only do I see the difference in your jawline, I see the difference in how your glasses are framing your face! I definitely notice it from your pics in England!

Keep up the great work! emoticon

I've had a similar experience. The biggest ego boost I received was when I met an ex-boyfriend for lunch after I began losing weight. We've remained friends and see each other every few months. I had told him I was losing weight. When we met for lunch, he complimented me and told me he could really see it in my face. It was so encouraging to hear that!!!

Sounds like you've got a great supportive husband! I'm sure this won't be the last of the awkward compliments, and aren't those the absolute best kind?? emoticon
Congrats on your accomplishments, being past the 25% mark is something to celebrate!

That reminds me of when my husband remarked on how my a$$ was no longer a shelf and then asked where he was supposed to put his beer!
emoticon emoticon
He was really only joking around. He doesn't drink beer all that often.
Congrats on your emerging jawline and cheekbones!

emoticon To think that you would ever be laughing because someone commented about your jowls. I'm glad that you are with someone who love you, now what you look like. But his attempts at compliments are just plain sweet! Gotta love him!
