Update on Kidney Doctors appt

Thursday, June 03, 2010

Well there really is not much to tell.. The kidney doctor was glad to see that i was feeling better--after i told him how i was sick for a few days and filled with so much fluid I thought i was gonna die of Congestive heart failure..He told me that i should have gone to the ER like my hubby wanted to do--BUt i have had bad experiences in the past with this same prob and they do not understand in the ER.. Anyways--He just said as usual that I have to keep my diabetes and BP under control and I am doing that and unfortunately the plan is to keep yourself in one stage for as long as u can--Like i am in Stage 3 of Chronic Kidney Disease-there are 5 stages and we do that by keeping diabetes and BP in control..Tho my kidney functions go up and down--the Doctor said that he did not want to change any of my meds and I have to go for more Blood/urine work in 3 months and then in 6 months and then go to see him again in 6 months..
But he said that i am holding steady.. I am no where near Diaalysis.. And these fluid retention probs are gonna happen as they are associated with the kidney disease.. So his job is to keep on checking my kidney functions and adjusting my blood pressures meds accordingly. Unfortunately with Kidney Disease it is just like a waiting game and it is unpredictable--like back in Aug 09 my kidneys just dropped down to only working at 17%-the doctor said he was very worried about me and he put me on a different BP med and my functions went back up.. SO i have to deal with all of my diabetic complications and just let God stay in control and I need to stop worrying..
Thanks for caring about me and i do appreciate all the Love and prayers that my Spark Friends have sent to me--You are all the Best..
Big Hugs
God Bless you all
Susie SMith from PA

HI Susie, I read this blog, and then checked out your sparkpage. You are amazing!! It is so inspiring to see how far you have come and it gives me hope.

I too struggle with my kidneys and this struggle is new to me. I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure, and I am grateful for that. But have many many other autoimmune system issues.

My kidney function has dropped to 38, and unfortunately I don't have the best doctors ( I live in the boonies) to take care of me. Through the help and suggestions of SParkpeople friends and the kidney foundation web sites I learned more about this disease.

Reading your blog has helped me understand a little more, and has given me some hope. You inspire me; your strength and fortitude are amazing. You are definately not alone with your struggles as I see you are very well supported with loving friends and family. I wish you all the best!! emoticon

    HI Susie,
I'm sorry to read of your current struggles. Doesn't it seem like it's never-ending? Praise God that what is never-ending is the health and strength of the resurrected body that we are both waiting for!
I'm in rehab hospital now, as I write this, following my first total hip replacement. The other one will be done soon.
Hang in there Sweetie...and when you can hang on anymore, just rememember there is ONE who is hanging on to YOU!

Blessings today. I love you,

I can realte totally to what is going on with you as my hubby only has one kidney and it is at 17 percent. He is in stage 4 kidney failure but not on dialysis at present. He is stable at this time too. It is a constant challenge for him as I am sure it is with you but it all relates to other things like you mention: blood pressure and blood sugars have to be stable! So it all comes down to eating right and exercising. That is why spark people is so important for you right??? I am here to help you in any way I can!! I am so glad that you are stable! That is a true blessing!!!

Like yourself, my kidneys are compromised
3 yrs. ago after the kidney specialist told me
protein was leaking from my kidneys...went home...
thought: mm protein,
that's MEAT!...
so switched to vegetarian diet and 3 months later, doc couldn't believe it!
He said the kidneys were working fine!
I've been a vegetarian ever since...

Hi Susan, i to am in 3rd stage CKD, you have a double whammy because of diabetes. When i found out i had CKD i changed my whole way of living, going organic, Herbs Vi. Supplements, minerals enzymes. I am on 3 blood pressure meds.and Zemplar. After changing to all this i brought my kidney function from26% function to 52%. So i felt much, much better. Its very scary, and there is so much you cant eat verses can eat. Take care of your self. Blessings to you emoticon emoticon
