I have a pretty long commute, so I have lots of time to think. Since January, when I started SP, my commute thinking has changed. Rather than be consumed by work, I am consumed by figuring out health. And, I am liking this new thinking. Wednesday's commute was one in which I realized how different my thinking has become. I chuckled as I thought about a few SIGNS of changed thinking... Here are a few. (Sure wish I could twang this list for you!!)

emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticonYou know you are getting healthy when... emoticon

emoticon.... you start thinking about water in terms of ounces rather than glasses.

emoticon... you start thinking about shorter ways to get to the gym rather than thinking about ways to get around it. are excited when the doctor FINALLY gives you a green light to exercise rather than dreading he might tell you to get off your butt to exercise.

emoticon... you think twice about eating out rather than eating out twice.

emoticon... grocery shopping actually takes a lot to time because you do a double take on every ingredient label rather than scarcely glancing at anything beyond the price.

emoticonAND... You know you are getting healthy when... emoticon eye the couch as the most convenient place to store your weights rather than the most convenient place to store the weight of your rear.

emoticon... you curse at the architects of parking places that seem way too close to the front door of the supermarket rather than obnoxiously far away from the closest entrance. realize there are not enough triathlon magazines at the store rather than thinking that the manager is wasting good book space for magazines only elite athletes will purchase. take pictures of Starbucks advertising because it just shocks you for its clever, blatant and manipulative fattening of America. (sorry Starbuck's fans...) rather than getting reeled in. (and yes, I really did take two photos last week! and I still go there... but I practice portion control now...)

emoticon... you find yourself salivating over different kinds of running shoes rather than looking for the cheapest tennies after the ones you own get holes in both soles. relish in the burn of a good workout rather than stop as soon as anything tingles at the slightest!

Those are just a few of my SIGNS! It's kind of fun to make this list! I started off with about 2-3 and ended up thinking of more! Try it!!

emoticonAnd you? What are the signs in your life?

My BIGGEST sign was when my body wanted to break into a run when I was out walking. An odd feeling, but only because I had never felt it before. emoticon

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! I love these signs and have noticed a few myself.

One of my biggies is instead of buying my vegetables and hoping they are safe and good - I planted my own and love nurturing and eating what I KNOW is good and safe.

I used to sit at my desk, gulp down my morning coffee only to chase it with a Dr Pepper, and a bag of chips for lunch. Now, as I sit here I am looking at my coffee cup which is about half full (or empty, for you pessimistic ones), and I'm about to go pour it out and start on my water intake, and eating whole grain cereal and watermelon. Oh, how times have changed.

Oh, and I agree on the commuting thinking. My drive in to work is my alone time with my thoughts, and they have certainly changed from work related thoughts to getting through the day so I can go to my exercise class!

Yea it's funny because when you start thinking about yourself and your health and your thinking changes, it seems everyone around you starts seeing how great you look and feel about your progress and they either support you or want to sabotage your progress! I really have experienced some mixed feedback from the people who have known me for quite some time and have discovered just how much of an impact my changes within myself and thinking start effecting other people who have been in my life, for me so far it has been stressful and kind of disappointing to find out just which ones are not really on your side, and just who it is that are apart of your support team! emoticon

You know you're getting healthy when . . . . you walk past all the single filers waiting to go up the escalator and you walk - or run! - up the stairs!

How clever! And how true--when being healthy is a way of life rather than something you're trying out "for now," you get a different perspective on things. Thanks!

hahaha This was great! I love Starbucks too but, fortunately for me, pregnancy and then money forced me to cut back on it almost two years ago. However, that just means it's become a treat for me and, like any treat that goes into my belly, I plan accordingly for it. Instead of Grande Java Chip with whip cream, 2% milk, and that lovely bit of chocolate syrup on top...I now go for a Tall Caramel Macchiato with non-fat milk. There's no whip cream and it's under 150 calories so it's an acceptable treat for the day if my diet has room for it. At least they're not as bad as McDonald's. I looked at a sample Frappe that they were giving away...600 calories! It didn't even look like 8oz! 1200 for the small size however big that is. whoa... emoticon

I like your list! Grocery shopping will go faster if you focus on items that DON'T have ingredient lists. They're the healthy ones, anyway.
