Losing weight but not showing up on scale

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Sometimes, I wish I could just get rid of the scale altogether in this journey for better health and overall fitness. A photography friend and Spark People member who hasn't seen me in a month or so remarked last week that I looked great and she could tell I had lost weight. Of course I screamed in delight and said thanks, but I couldn't stop myself from saying, "yeah, but according to the scale I haven't lost anything!"

We both commiserated about our shared experiences and how disappointing it can be to not see results on the scale. We know something is happening as our clothes are fitting better and people continue to acknowledge our success in losing weight. But why isn't it showing up on the scale? Why can't I say that after five months of logging my food and workouts on Sparkpeople, I can't say I've lost a specific amount of weight...not five pounds or even 10 pounds more than what I lost in the first month on the program? What's happening?

Thanks Inqe for your response and encouragement! You are absolutely correct and I love your saying "forget the physics and enjoy the fruits!"

Hey! I've sadly fallen behind on reading blogs....glad I took the time tonight! You are looking great; and aside from getting strep, you seem to be doing great and being more active n'such. Someone once told me that weight loss success is more measured from how you feel, what you can do, and if you're happy and that no one can explain how gravity even frigging works! So, forget the physics and enjoy the fruits!
