Healthy Habits

After joining the Healthy Habits Challenge Team today I started thinking back to the bad habits I have put to rest over the last 2 months since joining Spark.

Although I have high blood pressure I never bothered to monitor my sodiun intake . Oh I stopped using the salt shaker with my meals ,but never realized that some of the foods I was eating had hidden sodiumin them.
Fruits were very rarely seen in my refrigerator or on my plate. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I like vegetables but maybe only had 1 sometimes 2 a day.

And drinking a glass of water not nearly as often as I should. emoticon

I was terribly drawn to sweets of any kind, couldn't get enough of them

Not to mention my cravings for extra cheesy PIZZA!! emoticon

But since I made the commitment to myself to be a healthier person through better nutrition and exercise I have lost the cravings and gained the energy I was missing all along.
The first thing I grab in the morning is water not coffee, and my breakfast includes at least 2 fruits and 1 vegetable every day.
I am staying away from artificial sweeteners and packaged foods and getting in at least 8 glasses of water a day.
My salads are full of crunchy veggies and my stomach problems have almost completely stopped.
The portion control is still a work in progress, but it's getting better.
Over all I feel much healthier and energized by the daily workouts and my stamina is improving.
I still have a lot to work on but I know with Sparks nutrition and fitness help I will reach my goals and stay healthy.
Yay! for the motivation and help from my Spark Friends!!

I was shocked at the high level of sodium in genoa salami. I doubt I will ever buy it again.
Great article.

Nice to hear about the changes are making. I too am making a lot of changes in my diet. I have always loved fruits and vegetables, but because of time constraints processed foods usually hit our table and the fruits and vegetables would rot in the fridge. Over the past month I have been working with my family on minimizing or eliminating the processed foods we tend to buy. Shockingly, even my kids are enjoying most of the new additions I am making.

Good for you. I've heard it takes 21 days to make a habit, and 2 to break it. So keep doing what you're doing.

Wow I am so proud of you. Just look at how far you have come in such a short time! I can hear the positive attitude in what you wrote and that is fantastic. That will take you all the way.
My stomach problems have largely disappeared also.
Isn't eating healthy grand??

Great blog entry! I know exactly what you mean! Now when I do eat something that is not so good for me, it doesn't taste nearly as good as the fresh strawberries, or snowpeas, or glass of water that I had earlier. We can do it! emoticon

Well this has really made me think. I still eat a lot of salt but not a lot of sodiun=m otherwise, but I will have to track this. I expect it means reading the labels more. I also have a problem with portion control, I like big portions, I do eat enormous salads. That's one of the reasons why I eat packaged food, that's calorie counted as I know exactly what I am eating calorie wise. I tried to give up coffee but I love it too much. I make a great effort to eat lots and lots of fruit and veg. I used to get a lot of indigestion, and then there's the gall stones that I keep going on about, but my diet really has meant that I never have indigestion any more, and my gall bladder - well I'm not saying anything about that, just touching wood and crossing my fingers - difficult when typing. My weakness is the exercise I just hate it.
