C25K ~ Update

Monday, May 31, 2010

well last week was suppose to be week 5 of couch to 5k but I totaly skipped on all my workouts for an entire week. I did other stuff, including getting out walking but I totaly neglected my walking/jogging routine. I made alot of excuses for myself. My knees were hurting last week while jogging so I used that as my main excuse for not doing my workouts. Truth is though that I could have done them, I was just not wanting to run.

I started on week 4 again this week.... because Im not ready to move on to week 5 workouts. Week 4 is still extreamly challenging.

So My 5k is this comming friday and I am only up to running for 5 minutes at a time.... Its ok though, I am just going to do it in intravals. I figure running for 3 minutes at a time is comfortable enough for me to do now so I will run for 3 minutes and walk for 2 minutes. Im sure I can finish in under an hour doing it like that.

There is a chance of rain on friday emoticon emoticon Its really gonna suck if it rains.

Im going to get all my workouts in this week and Im going to do my best come friday.

GOOD LUCK ON THE RUN!!!!!!! I can't believe it's already've worked hard and HEY - running for 5 minutes in a row is way farther than you would have gone a year ago...!!! I think the run for 3 min then walk in intervals is a great idea. Watch out for your knees, love and please stretch out super good before and after. I'd hate for you to hurt yourself like I did with my Achilles. I'm slow back at running since then, probably because I'm so scared to hurt myself again. I will be there invisibly at the finish line cheering you on every step of the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GO GIRL!

Whether you walk or walk/run your 5K, your doing it. Im proud of you. I'm no where near ready myself. But i'm working on it. You just keep up the work and you'll be fine. For me it isn't the knees it is the shins. they kill me. If not for that i would be running like the wind. lol. emoticon

Never underestimate yourself...take your time, enjoy the run on Friday and just be present while you feel yourself breathe, move and SWEAT!! You will finish that 5km before you know it and be ready to sign up for your next one! Taking time off and pacing yourself is the key so that way you keep doing it! If it's not fun, you're gonna quit!! Enjoy!

If it is HOT you will WANT the rain, trust me. I got misted on in Detroit on 5/22 and it was the most heaven sent feeling ever.

Also, you'll be surprised at how much LONGER you can actually run while there's all the other people around you running. Makes you go "Yeah! I can!"

And it's OKAY to take a week off. Heck, I've taken months off. Made sure I was watching what I was eating and getting in some physical activity here and there, but you gotta keep your head about you... so if you didn't feel like it, you didn't feel like it... and THAT is okay! :)

Good luck! I'm staring down the barrel of that gun myself but I have a bit of time yet- nonetheless the race is June 19 and I'm jogging maybe 1.80 miles at the moment. That's a lot of miles to make up between now and then. We can do it!!!! And if it's not this 5k, then its the next one we will jog all the way through!

You do what you are comfortable with. You may be surprised at yourself when you actually get to the 5k though. I didn't think I'd be able to run (snail pace) the whole race, but I did and it was just over a half hour, so giving yourself an hour is a good start.

Have a great day!
