Shlog 12: Song Memories

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Some of you know that I like music and that I quote words from songs to go along with my friend feed entries and those darn wheel points!

Well, last night memories from my younger days came back to me in the form of some old favorite songs. My DH and I went to a concert in the Cities (ya know, Minneapolis/St. Paul) last night where two singers/songwriters from my past performed.

My mind's eye was picturing Friday Afternoon Club (FAC) songfests when all the girls were belting out..."You make me feel like a natural woman..." or "I feel the earth move under my feet...". Quieter times in the dorms or apartments discussing relationships and listening to "Don't let me be lonely tonight", "Sweet Baby James", and "Fire and Rain".

James Taylor and Carole King brought back my memories last night in grand fashion. I wouldn't have missed it! I last heard them in concert separately, James Taylor in 1975 and Carole King in 1978.

I really love my "Song Memories" and hope to continue to hear them!

Thanks for reading!

Hey! I loved those songs, too! They bring back such wonderful memories of when I was in high school and driving around in my '65 red Dodge Dart!

I got to go to a James Taylor Concert here in Fort Worth at the Bass Performance Hall about 11 years ago. It was really a high point in my concert going career........
Thanks so much for sharing your experience and bringing back those beautiful memories for me!

Nostalgia can find you so easily some days, can't it? I miss being 18... 19... 20... living in dorms with my closest friends...

Sounds like you had fun at the concert, which is GREAT to hear.

We all have a "life soundtrack". I'm so glad you had the opportunity to hear yours live!
Enjoy your day!

You are a kindred spirit from the same song time as I am. Sweet Baby James. Aretha, THE CARPENTERS (I still love them--Karen's voice was incredible). Lots of good memories. More recently, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Annie Lennox, Eva Cassidy. Music and memories do seem to go together. Thanks for the pleasant reminders.
