Pathetic

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Well, the pedometer only lasted a couple of days. Seems you have to raise your leg high enough when you walk to make it count. With bad knees, that doesn't happen. If I keep on SP one of these days I will get my act in gear. I am so depressed, I just can't get it together.

Thank you all for your encouragement. Today I did some house cleaning, something I don't do very often. Mentally I felt great doing it even though my knees and back were sore. Will try some more tomorrow.

I have three different pedometers and I can't say that I find any of them accurate. I find that they can cause us a lot of frustration, but they can at least give us an idea of how many steps were taking. I was sure I was getting so many more steps than I actually was. It was a real revelation.

Don't get too discouraged! Sometimes we just need a break....be gentle on yourself.

hmm, maybe that's why that pedometer never worked for me.....now where did I throw it?

Just remember every day is a new day and every step gets you one step closer to your goal. As others have said, try counting the minutes rather than the steps. That only gets me depressed since I can't walk that far without getting winded. Still ten minutes at a time is something I can do....or will do..once I work up to it. I am still on baby steps as far as walking is concerned; even with a walker, I still get winded. So keep up your spirits and just hang in there and remember we are all here for you. We know how it is because we've all been there..

The 10 minute suggestion is a good one. You could do it from home, a local park or the shopping mall if it is a rainy day. Minutes are as good as steps!

You CAN do this! Keep walking but switch to walking a set number of minutes. Try to go for 10 minutes nonstop and then take a break. I started out doing that several times a day.
Do you do any chair exercises? The Chair Exercise team really gave me some good ideas.
Stay positive,
Sheila

Sorry to hear the despair you far feeling. I had about 2 weeks of that and just got back on track again.. well, I was till today. It's a hard job.... it's a lifelong journey. I have to give myself permission to use that 80/20 rule.... maybe it would be good for you too. We can't be perfect all the time....

I had surgery on my knee 12 years ago and it's never been the same since.. getting down down sometimes means not getting up with help. But this time, it's 150 days, I have been doing Walk Away The Pounds 2 Mile religiously now since at least the first of Feb. and I was afraid to do the Kick-backs for fear of aggravating the knee, but now I started slowly and am able to do them. Next on my agenda, is Zumba that everyone is talking about. I figure you are probably trying to count your 10,000 steps, I don't do that, but these are some suggestions of what I do, hope they might help. Good Luck, and stick around and ask for support and encouragement it's here for you and you will receive it... Guaranteed!!! You don't have to feel depressed and that you can't do this alone, cuz you don't have to... there are so many of us around, we'll talk, share, support and encourage....
