Burning cals painting the wall
Tuesday, May 18, 2010
We've started on the mural wall - our drawing is up, and we painted the Blue Bond on it. This is bright blue goopy stuff that helps the cement and tile stick to the wall - we also mix some into the thin-set cement for added elasticity. (This was recommended by our maintenance superman - he said since the mural is in the sun, it needs the elasticity for heating and cooling every day - prevents cracks.)
Apparently painting burns about 400 calories in 75 minutes - woohoo!!!!!! Of course I was out there painting with the students, in my very grubby and cementy overalls. (The stuff just does not wash out.) Plus I had to re-draw some of our guidelines, and managed to get the blue goo in my hair - the girls were very helpful and gathered around to wipe it out. It will look great when I read the Torah portion at synagogue tonight - the Ten Commandments, for Shavuot!!!!!
My last class of the day will begin tiling, so I have more calories to burn! I'm hoping we get the bottom row on, then the rest should go fairly quickly!
Side note - One teacher called me yesterday, on my cell, to ask who drew the picture? I explained that the student who designed last year's mural took three students ideas and made a composite, but that I had her re-draw it so that the two murals would have visual continuity. She said she thought she recognized the style! Woohoo, other teachers are becoming art critics!
However, a music teacher said we only have a G clef on the mural, and this is the music building, we should have more music! I told him there's also a quarter note up there, but he missed it. (I told him this is the fine and performing arts mural, since the other one had academics on it.) I think he was still not happy, despite having two music symbols up there! Ah well, one positive, one negative criticism - I'm sure we'll hear more!
