finding a balance in foods eaten

Monday, May 03, 2010

I'm having difficulty balancing the foods I eat. If I get enough calories, I go over on sodium or cholesteral-neither of which is good for me. I think I've met the magnesium requirement once, and maybe the folate too. I don't eat many carbs, and have not for years as my husband was a diabetic and we virtually cut out breads, pasta and most potatoe dish. I'm trying to eat baked potatoes and baked sweet potatoes more often. I live alone and don't find it fun to spend so much time thinking about what I should eat to get all the right nutrients.
I'm supposed to be on a low cholesterol, low sodium diet-packaged foods are not good. emoticon

I wish I had an answer. I too have a problem balancing. I seem to be able to stay in the calorie range (just) BUT in doing so my carbs are usually low and sodium and cholesterol up like you. I don't use packaged food unless I have to. Following their plan doesn't work for me so I am now looking at what I eat that they never have on a plan for me and am experimenting with that to see if I can make a difference.

Don't give up, you will find a balance and things will get easier. emoticon
