On Wed. May 5th I'll be having carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists and a trigger finger release. As the day nears I have some apprehension - am I crazy having both wrists done at once? - but for the most part am looking foward to the end goal of being able to do things I enjoy without pain, numbness or my finger locking. I didn't realize how many things I had stopped doing. Some were obvious - I haven't gone bowling in several years. Others just "fell by the wayside" as I became more inactive - riding my bike (hands fall asleep), sewing, crafts, even using my camera is difficult with three of my fingers always numb. Along with the inactivity came boredom and snacking and regaining of the pounds I had lost - ugh!
My husband, children and MIL are all committed to helping while I recover (I waited until my sons' college semister was over). I have a stack of DVD's and audio books ready on my Ipod to get me through the first few days. Since I won't be in the kitchen I am hoping to use this enforced rest to break my snacking habit!
I don't like not feeing in control so being the one depending on others, even for a few days will give me a chance to work on that virture "patience" as will the recovery & rehab time.
All in all I'm looking foward to this "new start", being able to do things I enjoy once again and using this "detour in life's road" to get back on track with a healthy lifestyle.
