May 1st 2010 - Run like the wind!

Well maybe I didn't quite run like the wind but today for the 1st time in years I ran! I've been consistantly walking since February either on the treadmill or outside. Sometimes twice a day but I've been afraid to run because I do have arthritis in my knee and because of foot surgery in the past. I have felt stronger as time has gone on and tonight I was at the fitness center by myself and just felt the urge to try and run. I already do intervals on the treadmill so for 2- 1 minute shots I ran! It felt great! I do plan to go back tomorrow and try it again and see how I feel. I don't know how much I'll run in the future and have no plans to try for any marathons but in the meantime it just feels good to know I tried it and survived!
Today is a good day!

I keep wanting to try running again as well. Have you looked at the Couch to 5K plans? They start with small running intervals with walking between. I would imagine that if you aren't ready to advance to the next level, you could keep going until you are - and finally get to the full 30 minute run. I'm just waiting for time! I picked up a 2nd job and am dealing with moving and some family issues so don't want to take the time to figure out how to time those intervals. Most of the gyms have machines that can be done that way, though, so you're at an advantage.
