I bought a pedometer and the first day only registered 61 steps. Pathedic, so yesterday I tried to up it and was just under 200 steps. If nothing else it confirms how little I walk. So this is my goal- to keep increasing the steps. and I will try the chair exercises that you are talking about. Thanks

    Using the pedometer does motivate me to take an extra walk. Most of the time I only use it when I am walking the dog but recently tried it on the treadmill at the gym. Some pedometers will not register if you are walking on carpet and others register when you are riding in the car or taking the bus.

    Dancing for steps what a great idea. Even if you have to slow dance... We had pedometers given to us at work and they wanted us to walk 10,000 steps a day. That to me seems impossible. But, a lot of people did it... emoticon

    Try setting a timer for 5 minutes and walk that long; gradually increase the time.
    I only use my pedometer when I go for my "exercise walks" - I don't really care how many steps I walk otherwise.
    Just go slowly and add more steps as you feel ready.

    I loved my pedometer, and was so sad when it broke. I became a fantatic about my steps!! I walked extra laps around the grocery store; parked at the end of the parking lot; went up and down the steps at my house; and don't forget dancing. Dancing adds steps, too!
