When I worked, my job involved lifting and carrying large heavy boxes from one area to another, delivering to various mail stops. If you think of the work that a UPS driver does, that's what I did 8 hours a day, except for a private business.
That all came crashing to a halt on December 26, 2008 when I slipped on the ice and tore the meniscus in my right knee, also smacking my right shoulder on the truck as I fell backwards. I also tore muscles in my right calf.
Lots of physical therapy ensued, then surgery, then more physical therapy - none of which worked. About a month after the knee surgery my knee gave out on me, and I fell and tore the rotator in my right shoulder.
Up until I discovered this wonderful community, my days were pretty much spent watching LOTS of TV -- primarily NW Coast News until my hubby came home from work.
Since discovering this wonderful community, I have 're-arranged the patterns of my mind' and now I try to follow this program, while at the same time increasing my exercise program.
Walking has always been difficult for me, not only because of the bad knee, but because the bones in my feet also are out of whack because the knee is screwed up. But I still tried walking each day. Finally my new Oregon Scientific pedometer arrived and this week I have managed to reach over 10,000 steps a day for the last two days!
My personal challenge is to keep on walking every day with the hope that one day I will be able to walk without my walking stick. I'm hoping that when my new 3 wheel bike arrives, the exercise it will bring me will finally strengthen the very weak muscles in my right leg.
