VERY quick update

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I just got back from 4 days (and 4 nights) in Washington DC with 4 teenage girls and another teacher - we went to 4 museums, walked all over, fed those kids (who eat an unbelievable amount), and looked at and discussed major artworks. We also met with someone who works at the National Gallery of Art in the museum education/teacher ed program - one of the women who runs the summer programs I've attended.

We saw works by: Georgia O'Keefe, Jacob Lawrence, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Whistler, Homer, Leonardo, Rafael, Titian, El Greco.............I could go on and on. I had each girl tell me which was her favorite museum and why, and which was her one single favorite piece of art, and why.

We also walked around the White House and waved in case anyone was looking out the windows.

All in all, it was fun, I think it opened up a whole new world for the girls, and I'm TIRED. So that's the quick update.

And I logged over 10,000 steps every day but today, which was mostly spent in airports.

Love art galleries -- sounds like you had an excellent time (and built terrific memories for your students!).

And so: what was YOUR fave museum and YOUR fave work of art that you saw for the first time? Generally speaking there will be one image which stays with me -- or maybe two-three at most -- after a "blitz" like that!!

Glad you enjoyed that ee cummings again: this is the time of the year for it!!

That was a great trip. How did the girls end up being chosen to go? What a great experience for them. I'm sure you got your steps in walking around DC.
