I don't think I am as small as I am

Monday, April 26, 2010

I have had a weight problem all my life. I have been on many "diets", some work and some didn't. Only to gain most of it back. I have been put dowm most of my life. I have lost 40# in 1.5 years and gained 10 of it back. I went from a size 22 or XL down to a size 10 or med.(and swome of them are too big). I just don't feel that small. I just can't get my head around my current size. I have had many people notice that I have lost the weight and it does make me feel good when someone notices. I don't know when I will feel comfortable and totally "small".

Thanks ladies for all the encouraging words. I like the picture idea. I will try that.

You know it took me a while for my mental picture of myself to catch up with what is in the mirror. I think you have to remind yourself how far you have come and really look at yourself. It takes a bit for your brain to catch up, but if you let it, it will. You have to put those negative putting yourself down thoughts out of your head and take in all the positive changes and things you have done. You have a lot to be proud of and you should bask in it.

First of all, congratulations on losing the weight. That is a huge accomplishment!

I don't know because my case is just the opposite, I was fit all my life and then became overweight, but I imagine, your self-image is still stuck in the overweight mode because that is what your mind is accustomed to. It may just take some time for the reality of your weight loss to set in.

Maybe dressing up and having some flattering photos taken and then placing them all around your house in conspicuous places could help your brain to get in sync with your body? Whatever the case, you are to be commended for losing the weight!

It takes a while to change the picture of your true self in your mind's eye. When I was a lot heavier, in my mind's eye I saw myself as much smaller even though my clothes and general health all told me diffently. Now that I'm smaller, I still see myself a lot bigger than I actually am. For now just focus on how your clothes feel and the good feeling you get from positive comments.

I think you feeling small is your preception of yourself. I still dont feel "Small" but I know that I am smaller than I was. But if your lighter than when you started and feeling healthy then I think your on the right track. Good Luck!
