17 weeks of training lead up to April the 25th and the 26.2 miles that faced me..
To say I was nervous the day before would be a understatement.
The day before was a fog all I thought about was the race.. The night before I may have gotten 21/2 hours of sleep.Running over and over in my head how should I run it. If to use a pacer at a slower pace, hoping to conserve my energy toward the end. Or run strong at first and hope the excitement would keep me gone..
I choose a pacer with the time 4 1/2 hours at a 10min.15 sec pace per mile...
I am so glad I did, being with the group made the first 15 miles go by easy(everyone happy and talking)...After that people in the group started dropping back people became more focused on the run and the breathing started getting heavier..
At mile 17 I felt strong and got out a little bit head of the group, but at mile 20 I was back running with the pacer and the few that was left in the group.. mile 21 pacer told us we were head of time by about 5 minutes and he would be slowing down to stay on pace and if we wanted to just go on head ,but remaining group liked the idea of staying with the pacer..
At mile 22 I stopped and grabbed water and a orange slice and walk with it through the water station.Turned out to be a mistake, thought I would just sprint back to the group, but my legs did not want to start moving again..The last 4 miles was a struggle for me I wanted so bad to make the it in 4 and 1/2 hours..I stopped and stretched hoping that would help and then took off,but the pace seemed much slower then before..
All the cheering the last 2 miles kept me gone..I was so happy to see the finish line and my friends and my wife(who all ran the half marathon..)
I crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 34 minutes.(10 minutes and 21 second mile).
It was a great experience, but honestly don`t see me running a full marathon again..
I do plan to run a 1/2 marathon with my wife and also sometime run marathon relay with friends..
Thanks everyone for all your support and great comments..
