When I joined SparkPeople, I had very simple workout goals. Do 30 minutes of weight training every other day, mixed with 30 minutes of cardio on the other days. Some days is was walking, or some Dance Dance Revolution on the 360.
My consistency with the weights wasn't so good, but I really took to the walking. I started throwing a few short runs in with my walk. After six months of my random walk/runs, I read about the Couch to 5K program. I realized at that point what my cardio routine was missing. I had no plan and no goals. Looking at the program, I decided that I would give it a try, knowing that I would have to repeat some weeks, because I was convinced that there was no way I could be running 30 solid minutes in just 9 weeks.
The good news is that today, I found out I was wrong. I have finished the last day of training right on time, and I've never felt better about myself. It's been difficult. I've had to choose to run three times a week whether I felt like it or not. I've gotten up early and stayed up late to run on my scheduled days. I've had to say no to dining out once or twice and give up video game time to keep my commitment. It has been worth all those small sacrifices to know that I am capable of running for a half-hour.
I'm looking forward to running my first 5K next week!
