Starting out Big....and Learning to Exercise SN: I can wear my prom dress!!!!

Friday, April 23, 2010

Okay...I'll begin by telling you that I've always been a part of a sedentary lifestyle. I'm 17 and 16 years younger than my siblings, so there was never anyone at home for me to go outside and play with. When I was growing up, we lived almost 1/2 mile from the closest neighbor who was 90 when he passed in 1999, so there weren't any neighborhood children I could play with. My mom also didn't work the traditional "9 to 5", she worked as a domestic and as an in-home aide...and took me right along with her, so no day care or preschool for me. I grew up sitting around watching TV and reading books, so by the time I hit 3 or 4, I was chubby...and I stayed there.

In school, I hated PE...as a matter of fact, I was a straight "A" student up until 8th grade PE...where I made my first "B". I liked basketball, but who in their right mind wants to run back and forth, back and forth, I thought. I was scared of getting hit by a volleyball or softball, and in kickball, I always kicked either a short kick that got caught or a foul...plus, I would have to run from base to base. Soooo, sports and physical activity were not my cup of tea.

In college, I took Aerobics...I think twice and I went to the Student Rec Center like 5 times in my four years, but that's the extent of it.

Last night, I worked out for a total of 65 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did Pilates for 20 minutes and then got up and did 45 minutes of The Firm's 500 Calorie Workout. I got further in the tape than ever, I pushed myself even though I was tired...I put the water bottle on the dresser and between sequences, I would take a swig and keep going. I have worked out 3 days this week....and I actually feel pretty good....Now....if I could only find enough hours in the day to catch up on grading papers emoticon

SN:
Also, my goal was to fit back into my prom dress...I lost some weight being away at summer camp and was able to wear a size 14 to my senior prom.....gained ~30 pounds during freshman year at college and last time I tried...I couldn't zip it. I tried it on...and I'm proud to say that it has extra room in the front!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
