Starting out Big....and Learning to Exercise SN: I can wear my prom dress!!!!

Friday, April 23, 2010

Okay...I'll begin by telling you that I've always been a part of a sedentary lifestyle. I'm 17 and 16 years younger than my siblings, so there was never anyone at home for me to go outside and play with. When I was growing up, we lived almost 1/2 mile from the closest neighbor who was 90 when he passed in 1999, so there weren't any neighborhood children I could play with. My mom also didn't work the traditional "9 to 5", she worked as a domestic and as an in-home aide...and took me right along with her, so no day care or preschool for me. I grew up sitting around watching TV and reading books, so by the time I hit 3 or 4, I was chubby...and I stayed there.

In school, I hated a matter of fact, I was a straight "A" student up until 8th grade PE...where I made my first "B". I liked basketball, but who in their right mind wants to run back and forth, back and forth, I thought. I was scared of getting hit by a volleyball or softball, and in kickball, I always kicked either a short kick that got caught or a, I would have to run from base to base. Soooo, sports and physical activity were not my cup of tea.

In college, I took Aerobics...I think twice and I went to the Student Rec Center like 5 times in my four years, but that's the extent of it.

Last night, I worked out for a total of 65 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did Pilates for 20 minutes and then got up and did 45 minutes of The Firm's 500 Calorie Workout. I got further in the tape than ever, I pushed myself even though I was tired...I put the water bottle on the dresser and between sequences, I would take a swig and keep going. I have worked out 3 days this week....and I actually feel pretty good....Now....if I could only find enough hours in the day to catch up on grading papers emoticon

Also, my goal was to fit back into my prom dress...I lost some weight being away at summer camp and was able to wear a size 14 to my senior prom.....gained ~30 pounds during freshman year at college and last time I tried...I couldn't zip it. I tried it on...and I'm proud to say that it has extra room in the front!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
