A light bulb came on in my head!

Friday, April 23, 2010

I went to the therapist again just this past Wednesday (she's the nicest lady). I explained to her that I couldn't afford to come for both my back and my knee pain
and as far as that goes, I couldn't afford to see her even once a week as she had
suggested because we are living as a lot of people are, on a limited income.

I told her that my back was probably worse because of having to favor my left knee so much; she agreed and saying that my back would undoubtedly be worse from limping and having to use a cane/walker which ever I was forced to use because of the knee. So...we agreed that we would work on the knee and she asked if I could come back 3 weeks from this coming Wednesday which begin my first treatment for just the knee.

That worked out, she did an evaluation on my knee and told me that I needed some corrective shoes or insoles because my stance was putting additional strain on my knees.

A light bulb came on in my head!

Last year about this time, I had gotten corrective insoles and specialty shoes to help my back and I was walking happily without aid by summer! Well I had been doing so well that I ditched those ugly shoes in the closet and forgot about them. I came home and went to my closet to my shoe hanger and drug out those ugly walkers and put them on. I must say, they are dreadfully uncomfortable to wear because they are working those lazy forgotten muscles and tendons that I had neglected.

Reminds me of eating; sometimes eating healthy isn't very comfortable either because we have to prepare foods that often take time and or attention to detail where as the old comfortable foods are easy just to order out or eat out.

A deliberate habit takes time, but is rewarding in the long stretch.

Good blog! I need to look into the same thing. My feet have been bothering me lately and I have good shoes. Maybe I need something a bit different though. Thanks for the reminder. Glad you're feeling better!

Sometimes we already have the things we need to help with the pain that our bodies put us through. Happy walking.

I wear insoles so you not alone. They are my buddies. My back has been good since I have had them on many years.
My knee gets bad on and off. I do have osteoarthritis. So when weather is either different out too hot. My knee and sciatic hurt or ache.. Today. I did yard work and I did well. I did 90 minutes raking leaves and bending over picking up twigs from the ground from high winds we had several days ago.

Good for you! The orthotics will definately help. I had basicly the same thing happen to me except I had Plantar's Faciitis in one foot. I quit wearing them for a long time then a few months ago I had to go to the Dr. because my foot was hurting so bad I could hardly walk and he told me to start wearing my orthotics again. I really didn't think it would make any difference, but I did as he said and problem more pain! I'm sure that will work for you as well! emoticon

Maybe you could jazz up your shoes with some new pretty shoe strings in a vibrant color or pattern! Just a thought. Being able to walk is worth so much more than fancy foot ware. Hang in there! Keep up the healthy diet, one day at a time.

Oh wouldn't that be wonderful if they worked so great that you didn't have to spend money for the PT. Let's pray for that to happen. emoticon

I think society put too much on what it looks like and not if it is helpful to you. I say good for you where the shoes and get better. And if you want to wear something different for a special occasion one day won't kill you but go back to your corrective shoes. And Stay healthy!
