The LONG Way Home...!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Only 45 this morning! Woo hoo! Off I go, gloves forgotten yet again...lol!

Passed another biking milestone today...that nasty hill down the road from our house: have had to granny-gear it down to the VERY lowest gear. However: the last time I was able to avoid using the lowest four gears. Today? Another four gears higher...legs are getting stronger! I can feel it when I run my hands over them...more streamlined and defined!

Still won't go public in my bike (aka: *dorky*) shorts...lol! Wore 'em underneath my jeans today.

Anyhow...I was so eagerly anticipating my ride home throughout the day today...just kept thinking about how beautiful the day was and how when I hit the road the SKY'S the LIMIT and where can my legs take me today...?

For me, the greatest challenge in biking is conquering hills. For level terrain I feel like I can go and go and go! So I returned to a hill I nailed a little bit ago, however hadn't gone quite to the top as I thought I had...turned left too soon to go down a street which I mistakenly thought was the one I intended to go down.

Today I was going to nail that hill good and proper, right up to the top!

Well, I thought the next left turn up at the top was just a little further up the road.

WRONG!

I kept pedaling, pedaling, rounding each bend figuring it was the last, but it wasn't...this infernal hill (which I drove up many, many memory-hazed years ago...!) was probably DOUBLE the distance I had traveled the FIRST time when I turned left too soon!

I get wobbly when I'm granny-gearing it for a long time...tiny zig-zags left & right...some of them were just a paper thin distance from taking me into the gravel of the shoulder and would have finished my ride and doomed me to *the walk of shame*.

But I prevailed and made it ALL THE WAY UP! I couldn't BELIEVE IT!

AND: my backside is decidedly tougher with fewer aches & pains.

Super Buns!

Sit Bones of Steel!

...or so I WISH...lol!

But hey...it's all progress and it's all so SO GOOD! Over 25 miles total biking today...9 in a.m. and 16 this evening.

Discovered a couple new biking events coming up this summer which I'll be sharing with my local SparkTeam.

Hoping this FROST they're calling for tonight is a false alarm. I'm aiming for more some more of the Great Wide Open!

Get ready to FIRE UP your FRIDAY! :-)

Sounds excellent! Last time I went riding I went up one of those looong hills too, and boy did it feel great to get all the way up that thing! Great job!!!

My butt hurts too... but not from the bike, it's from all of the lunges and squats in my morning workout! Wow!

So does Lance Armstrong have difficulty at airport security? Just imagine the scene... metal detector alerts... swivels head down and behind... "Oh, that's just my Sit Bones of Steel."
