Festival time and fashion crisis

Thursday, April 22, 2010

So I have been shopping. I am attending the "ball" portion of the Seattle Erotic Art Festival. I have gone to the art exhibit every year for the last several years and last year was my first time going to the evening events. An old friend and I are going this year since he has never gone (my spousal unit doesn't do BIG crowds so he is always happy someone is willing..lol). Of course attending means fashion crisis. Last year I wore a black lace vintage (40's) dress. You see pretty much all kinds of attire (including the outrageous - which I am still giggling about seeing some of those outfits mingling with the "opera" crowd outside of the Seattle Center). So this year I decided to be a little more "daring" since I am a bit more comfortable in my own skin and I purchased a corset from an online store in the UK. Risky in the sense that UK sizing is much smaller than us yanks but I went straight off my measurements (and prayed..lol). They had great shipping ($6 to the USA) and some great clothes by the way (Asos.com). Well I got the corset and it's really well made (silver grey). Tried it on today and it looks fab and makes me look tiny which is a trip. "Back flab" wasn't too bad which was a relief. Flappy arms be damned! emoticon

Now I have to decide what to wear WITH it. I have a short skirt which would look cute. But now there is a new wrinkle into the evening. I have season soccer tickets to the Seattle Sounders and there is a game that night. So my friend and I are going to go to the game prior to attending this shindig (hey soccer is a PRIORITY!). Thing is that it is an outdoor stadium..lol. His response: wear layers. Easy for HIM to say. So thinking the skirt is out. I picked up a pair of 510 Levi jeans which are the super skinny style (SUPER SUPER skinny - like my knees aren't sure they can breathe..lol) so I may wear those with the corset (and a sweater AND a jacket). I will be the chick with the "perfect" posture turning blue since I won't be able to breathe AND be freezing.

Another option: I also was at Walmart today and was perusing the little girl's sales rack and found a pair of shiny black tights which would also work (for $3). I figured for $3 wearing them once is fine. Just not sure if I am brave enough for all of that "shiny" look. So the debate is on. The other dilemma is shoes. I don't do heels (everyone laughs hysterically around me at the thought but honest - I did do heels at one time...back in the dinosaur ages). So I am searching for something appropriate AND comfy since I will be not only going to a soccer game BUT probably hoofing it several blocks across Seattle. Shindig is on the 1st so I have another week to ponder and change my mind a million times!

What about adding leggings under skirt? I see funky ones on sale all the time. A short jacket would be cute. You could either go punk rock with it or a tux-style jacket may work. You could always do tuxedo pants and jacket.

That sounds like so much fun!

I love the corset. It is fantastic. I have no fashion sense so I would be no help but the corset looks like it would go with anything. Maybe the tights, short skirt, corset, and some Mary Jane Shoes. Or boots.

I own boots but they are brown. I love boots - my preference for shoes is on the more androgenous side of things. I have been looking at the shorter type boots lately, amongst the low heeled strappy sandal like things (which are SO not conducive to walking any distance). I am seriously trying not to invest a boatload of $ on this since I only go once a year. Skinny jeans - I will wear. A short skirt I will wear during the summer to muck with folks (because that is how I roll emoticon ). Anything else becomes a murky, dear god...territory~!

I'm no fashioniesta. Since you asked for opinions. Skirt with tights and short jacket. For shoes you might want a nice low to mid heel boot. Think it would look fab.

I thought about the tights and the skirt - still looking at jacket options but the short jacket idea works (and then of course possibly the SOCCER stadium coat I wear to the games since it is a night game, likely be chilly AND could rain. I might get a few raised eyebrows from my season ticket compadres but the bottom line is GO SOUNDERS! emoticon

Shiny tights and the little black skirt! A lttle bolero (?) jacket (short). No one needs to be totaling squished.
