Keep On Shooting For The Moon, Reaching For The Stars!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Monday was the 9 year anniversary of my Dad's death. This morning I went with Mom to Arlington National Cemetery where Dad is buried. It was interesting how we didn't cry like we did in the beginning. We even cracked some jokes at the end. It was pouring rain outside but it was a therapeutic morning for both of us.

Afterwards we went to Borders bookstore. My Mom was looking for something and somehow I ended up in front of the diet section. I saw The Spark. Then I noticed Tosca Reno's Eat-Clean Diet Companion-it's like a workbook/journal thing that you can log your eating and goals and so forth. It appealed to me as I would have to take it with me everywhere. I flipped through it and noticed her collection of books at the back of it. Now, when I was working on my Vision Collage I had come across Tosca Reno's name and discussion of her book. However, I was not really focused on it at the time(I was more interested in getting my Collage finished!). So I went over to the health & fitness section of the bookstore and found Eat-Clean Diet Recharged. I took it over and showed it to Mom. I hemmed and hawed over the idea of purchasing it. Would I actually use it? Is it worth it? Should I wait for the weekend? I ended up purchasing the both books and am quite pleased that I did. They even had a 20% discount on diet related books. I found that out after the fact. Mom saw the sign but somehow I missed it.

I have read a bit of it and have decided that next week or Saturday night I will be incorporating it into my Fast Break Goals. I'm quite excited about this.

So that was the first thing that made my day positive. The second was that I was able to talk to my good Sparkfriend JETSOX on the phone. What a wonderful surprise! Please now that I have different Sparkfriends who mean so much to me and in different ways. I value each and every one of you for the role you play or have played in my journey. JETSOX called and we talked for almost 2 hours. It was fabulous! It was like we'd been talking forever. She helped me think about a lot of things. But most importantly, she gave me a great idea that will help me in my career move. I'm so excited about the possibilities for what I can do. She inspired me to work harder and for that J, I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! emoticon

Status for today's goals:

1.Drink 9 glasses of water a day. 10 glasses consumed-I did what I said yesterday emoticon emoticon My new book talks about drinking 2-3 liters of water. Well 1 liter is about 33 oz so I think I'm well on my way to doing this.

2.Walk 10,000 steps a day. 10,615 steps taken emoticon

3.Walk/run 21 miles a week (this breaks up to 3 miles daily). 4.78 miles walked. emoticon

Can I just tell you how excited I am to get started on this Eat-Clean Diet (ECD)? It's really an emoticon concept and it goes perfect with the Sparkpeople concept. I plan to re-read my copy of The Spark and get my goals redefined on my career. I just have to figure out the $$$ aspect of things. If things work out, I would like to take classes to be a fitness instructor and then also a children's fitness specialist. I would love to be able to time this to go to Em's school but I don't know what will be. I will be praying on this.

Thank you all for your encouragement and support! It's so appreciated!

WE CAN DO THIS emoticon emoticon
So let's stay serious & get sexified! emoticon
Shoot for the moon, reach for those stars emoticon

Glad to hear you had a good day out with your mom even though it started with what could have caused some people to have a low day. Good luck with trying clean eating. I am prepping for a 7-day detox. I did it once before and I incorporated some of the better eating into my regular diet, but I got badly off the track lately so I'm giving it another go.

You always mention your daily steps. What kind of a pedometer do you have and where did you get it? I have had at least half a dozen different ones and they either don't work all the time (count every 4th step), or I lose them!

Eating Clean is a great way to eat. Tosca Reno is not the end all authority on Clean Eating, she did not invent it yet people worship her for it. Some people live and die by what she says. Be careful as to what you take from her.

The major problem I have with her is that she drinks coffee and even writes about it. Coffee is not a "clean food." Coffee is a stimulant, some in the scientific world equate it to a narcotic and I can buy into that. Any food that causes you to have major withdrawal complications and massive headaches is a food you should not be eating and it certainly is not clean. You do not get addicted to clean foods. You get healthy.

I admire her for the weight she has lost and how she body builds at her age and she does look great. But the person she is married to has "created her" and has published her books. Clean Eating dates back to biblical times and not Tosca Reno.

Clean Eating is a great way to eat and emoticon to eating clean. Follow a path of eating clean but don't follow Tosca Reno. Read her books and learn but also read the other books on Clean Eating.

n> emoticon to you and your Mom for the anniversary of your Father's death.
