First - a confession. I always found it tough to get motivated to exercise, I *like* being a lazybutt in my recliner playing videogames or watching tv or working on my x-stitch. My hobbies are all fairly sedentary, I don't like sports.
Well, I bought myself a Polar heart-rate monitor a few weeks ago, and its funny how motivating it is for me! I'm excited to use the treadmill now, or even walk home from work (5km!!) and I watch that watch like a hawk, seeing what my heartrate is, seeing if I'm in my zone, seeing if I need to step it up or slow down a little... it makes exercising more interesting, and even fun for me. Hehe, almost like a videogame, keeping my heartrate where it needs to be. If only I'd known years ago that that's what I'd need to get interested in exercising... ah well, I know now. And its really great that now I know how it feels to be exercising at the right intensity, and that feeling is starting to feel good! The light sweat, a little out of breath but still able to talk (and sing along with my ipod, badly) and a little tired but also energized and alive. I never knew before how to tell if I was going to hard, and sometimes I was - I'd overdo it and start to feel tired (in a bad way) and sick, and blammo there went all my motivation. I was a little worried when I bought my monitor, I was wondering if it would be a waste of money and I'd just give up on it after a day or two, but I just love it. Hooray, something to get me exercising! :)
